Grass Roots Gay Rights West (GRGR/West), producers of the annual REAL BAD fundraising party that follows San Francisco’s world-renowned Folsom Street Fair, today announced the beneficiaries and DJs for REAL BAD XXIV. Five LGBT health and community service organizations, listed below, will share 100 percent of the funds raised by general admission ticket sales to this historically sold-out event. Last year, REAL BAD XXIII raised $180,000 for worthy charities, and has raised nearly $1.5 million throughout the event’s history. This year’s Main Dance Floor DJ, chosen from over 25 applicants, is Rio de Janeiro-based Edu Quintas. In addition, the Underground Lounge will offer an alternative dance sound by Melbourne-based DJ Kam Shafaati. REAL BAD XXIV will take place on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Club 1015 Folsom in San Francisco.

The organizations named as beneficiaries of REAL BAD XXIV represent diverse causes within the LGBT community. The beneficiary organizations are:

AIDS Emergency Fund (AEF)
A provider of financial resources to prevent homelessness and add stability to the lives of those disabled by HIV/AIDS.

Alliance Health Project (AHP)
An organization that brings the skills and expertise of UCSF, one of the nation's leading health sciences universities, to an LGBTQ community‐based clinic.

Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center
A provider of education, support, empowerment and advocacy for Asian and Pacific Islander communities — particularly those living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS.

Bay Area Young Positives
An organization that helps young people, ages 14 to 26, living with HIV/AIDS live longer, happier, healthier, more productive and quality-filled lives through peer-based services.

GLBT Historical Society
An organization that collects, preserves, and interprets the history of GLBT people and the communities that support them.

“REAL BAD is unique in that it is an event produced by the community, for the community, and benefiting the community of San Francisco. Everyone who works on REAL BAD is a volunteer, so we put our hearts into creating an amazing, magical experience, while letting every possible dollar raised flow back into our community,” said Craig Cochran, event chair for REAL BAD XXIV. “This year we’re thrilled to welcome several new beneficiaries: Alliance Health Project, AIDS Emergency Fund, and GLBT Historical Society, as well as continuing our 2-year grant commitment to Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center and Bay Area Young Positives. We’re excited by the breadth of our community that is represented by the organizations benefiting from REAL BAD XXIV.”

GRGR/West today also announced that the DJ selected for the Main Room at REAL BAD XXIV is Edu Quintas of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Among his credits, Edu is the resident DJ at The Week Club and performs in clubs across Brazil including Cine Ideal, Leboy, Josefine, and Deisel. Edu Quintas is known for his creative remixes and mashups as well as his original production work. Over 25 applicants competed for the opportunity to play the Main Dance Floor at REAL BAD XXIV. Edu was selected by a panel of judges based on a blind review of the finalists’ demo sets.

In addition, GRGR/West announced that Kam Shafaati of Melbourne, Australia has been selected as the DJ for the Underground Lounge. Kam has brought a musical catalog of progressive and chunky house, trance, techno, tribal, minimal, chill-out, and all-around hypnotic beats to a diverse range of parties across Australia. Recent appearances include Sydney Mardi Gras, Inquisition, Midsumma T Dance, BearNation, and Bear Pride. Kam’s last appearance in San Francisco was Bearracuda Magnum the weekend of the Folsom Street Fair in 2010.

REAL BAD XXIV will feature world-class lighting, lasers and video production. The lighting show and operations will be provided by Guy Smith Lighting. The laser show will be provided by Laseronics and Kyle Garner. Video production will be provided by Rob Montenegro.
